The Board of Investment undertakes surveys in the region. The information collected from these surveys are useful to Freeport Operators for their market development strategies.

Australia
"Australia - A Guide to the Market" - 2005 Edition. This is a guide for foreign suppliers and Australian importers prepared by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia.

Kenya
Kenya an important regional market for the Mauritius Freeport being ranked in the top 10 countries in terms of exports. The main products exported for the FY03/04 are plastic goods and chemicals & pharmaceuticals.

Senegal
In its strategy to diversify the market base of Freeport Operators, the Authority undertook a survey of a West African country, namely Senegal in 2002. The survey has demonstrated that sectors that Freeport Operators can tap into are: information technology, packaged foods, textile goods & accessories, used clothing, electrical and electronic goods and cosmetics.

Tanzania is a fast growing market and is emerging as East Africa’s distribution hub as it is a major distributor to East Africa’s land locked countries. Exports from Mauritius has increased considerably during the last two years.

Zambia
Zambia, together with Mauritius, joined the COMESA Free Trade Area since October 2000. COMESA originating products from Member States that are in the FTA therefore have no duties applicable when exported in the FTA.
